Webmail changes

Posted by madhack on Feb 15, 2003

Some visitors may have noticed that Pink Floyd Fandom Webmail has been changed somewhat. It has been integrated into the main Fandom site, so logging in will now be the same as logging in to the regular site. The URL has also changed, although the old www.pinkfloydmail.net one will still get you there.

This does not change anyone's email address.

New functionality has arrived

Posted by madhack on Jan 10, 2003

Well, we've been talking for a bit about adding new functionality, and the first of it is here with the arrival of the Discussion boards. Post your thoughts and opinions and interact with your fellow Floyd fans!

This is just a preview of what's to come. You might also notice the other two new areas, Albums and Users. The Albums section is an attempt to gather the disparate information available about the various Pink Floyd (and related) albums, DVDs, books, etc. into one place. The Users section is where you can go to sign up for an account, change your password, reset a forgotten password, and change your preferences. Both of these sections will be greatly expanded as more album information is made available and as more user functionality is enabled.

Note that you do not need to sign up if you already have an account for Pink Floyd Fandom Webmail; you can simply use the same username and password for the Fandom site now. Signing up from the Fandom page will automatically include a Webmail account, which can always be accessed from the link to the left.

Please enjoy the new services, and feel free to use the Discussion section's The Site board to make suggestions or comments about the new additions.

CD Partners - an update

Posted by madhack on Nov 27, 2002

After looking around a bit, we've come to the conclusion that the various online stores out there each have enough different strengths and weaknesses that it's difficult to choose one. As a result, the Fandom now supports multiple partners.

Please do report broken links to [email protected], if you should run across any.

Make your recommendation for new CD partners

Posted by madhack on Nov 23, 2002

Due to circumstances out of our control, The Pink Floyd Fandom will not be able to continue its partnership with CDNow beyond the beginning of December. We are looking for a replacement. CDNow was originally chosen because I personally have had nothing but good experiences with them since first becoming a customer in 1996, but again, this is not in our control. So, if you have a favorite music store site that you'd like to suggest we take a look at, please email us at [email protected].

Live At Knebworth

Posted by pulse on Oct 29, 2002

The historic 1990 concert at Knebworth, Hertfordshire is being released on DVD in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound. More than 120,000 fans gathered to see Pink Floyd headline rock 'n' roll legends Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Mark Knopfler, Phil Collins, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Status Quo, Tears For Fears and Cliff Richard & The Shadows in benefit of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre and the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. The DVD contains over 180 minutes of the critically acclaimed performances, and will be released on November 11th in all regions. You can pre-order from CDNOW.

Exciting new functionality coming soon

Posted by madhack on Oct 16, 2002

Astute visitors may have noticed that some things look slightly different than they used to (news, reviews, tour info, and especially the search page). This is due to new code that I have been developing for pinkfloyd.net. Before the end of the week I expect to also have the Links and Lyrics pages using this new code as well, which uses a database to retrieve all the information instead of static webpages.

Why should you care? Because I'm beginning work on a new members section. Account registration will be free (in fact, if you have a Webmail account, you will already have a login to the members site), and once signed up you will be able to submit news stories, reviews, tour setlists, and links from the Pink Floyd Fandom website. Myself and the other admins will be able to review and approve or reject postings through a similar interface, enabling us to quickly and efficiently add new user-submitted content. This should help clear up the massive backlog of reviews and other content that has been submitted but not added, and hopefully will also add a whole new level of excitement and interactivity to the site.

More updates will be posted as this project proceeds, so keep an eye out!

A recent article entitled "Pigs Might Fly Before Pink Floyd Reunites" was published by Reuters news service. It contains excerpts from a phone interview conducted with David Gilmour. He discusses the future of Pink Floyd (or lack thereof), his upcoming solo album and shares an opinion about former disputes with an old counterpart. Click here.
